Wulai is located in the water source protection area which you can imagine the air, water, and environment here is nice and clean. The residents are mostly from Atayal indigenous tribe. In addition, the word “Wulai” was originally from Atayal language, means “hot springs”. The spring is a weakly alkaline carbonated spring, clear and transparent.

Wulai is in between of mountains and the streams flow through, forming a beautiful landscape. With a mountain height difference of 80 meters result in the famous Wulai Waterfall. Spend a day here for a special atmosphere of indigenous culture experience.

How to get to Wulai?

The cheapest way to get to Wulai is to take a bus from Taipei main station. It only costs NT.15 per person and takes 40 minutes per ride. However, you may have to watch the time since the bus runs every 30-40 minutes and it is much busier on the return ride. In that case, you may have to stand all the way towards to city. So make sure you are ready to head back before the rush hour!

If you don’t feel like waiting, you can hire a taxi for around NT400 to Xindian Station.

Wulai Suspension Bridge

The bridge is 105 meters long and a pleasant spot to take a quick snapshot before getting on returning way of the bus ride.

You may find plenty of Indigenous dishes here as, for example, stir-fry wild vegetables, deep-fried creek fish, rice wine, etc. Virtually all the restaurants serve similar types of food, so just choose your desirable restaurant that looks comfortable and plan to sit down with 2-3 dishes over some rice wine.

Wulai Scenic Train

Price: NT.50 / per person

Wulai Scenic Train was built in 1928 for the purpose of transporting items through the mountain woods, during the Japanese occupation period. Now it is only used for tourism. There are only two train stops: Wulai Station and Wulai Waterfall Station.

The maximum speed of the train generally does not exceed more than 20 km/hr. You may enjoy a relaxing ride and experience the beautiful lush mountain scenery. Let the train take you into a Taiwanese wonderland. Also, the train ticket is cheap and a nice way to spend time with friends and family, and children love it.

Wulai Waterfall

Price: Free

When the Wulai Scenic train arrives at the Tai-che Waterfall station, you will depart from the train. Follow the water sounds you will see the marvellous waterfall.

The waterfall is the largest in northan Taiwan at a height of 80m.

Here you can find a coffee shop and sit down to enjoy the rich oxygen and healthy negotive ions in the air.

Hotsprings

The hot spring water here is quite different than the water in Beitou. It is clean, has a PH of 7-8, and is also drinkable –without the smell of sulfur. Such hot spring water is good for repairing skin, and absorbing nutritious amounts of magnesium.
